The scheme

How SiteWise is scored

SiteWise is run by Site Safe. It is an annual online assessment on your business's own account: the questions are answered and the evidence uploaded (with us, we do that as a user you add to the account), Site Safe's assessors score it against the published section weights, and you get a grade. Gold is 90% or above, Green is 75% or above, and Amber and Red sit below that. Site Safe aims to turn an assessment round in 5 to 10 working days, and if the grade is not the one you need you can be reassessed within three months.

Level 3, subcontractors

NZ$250 + GST a year, paid by you to Site Safe, with three assessment attempts in the first year. This is the level most trades and subcontractors are asked for.

Level 2

NZ$795 + GST a year, paid by you to Site Safe. For larger contractors and those a client has specifically asked to hold Level 2. The same sections, with more depth expected.

What the grade means

Green at 75% satisfies most clients. Some asset owners and main contractors ask for Gold at 90%, and it is your records as much as your documents that get you there. Reassessment is available within three months if you fall short.

Fees are Site Safe's published figures at the time of writing and are not part of our price. Check sitesafe.org.nz before you budget.

The requirement

The 12 scored sections, what we write, and what has to be yours

Our price covers the documents. Your score also depends on your records: SiteWise wants to see your own toolbox talks, training, inspections and incident register, dated within the last 12 months, and no document can stand in for them. Your assessment score depends on your real records as well as the documents — we tell you up front which evidence only you can supply.

1. Hazard and risk register

We write: A register built around the activities your trade actually does, with controls, responsibilities and review dates.

Yours to supply: Evidence it has been reviewed in the last 12 months and is used on site.

2. Incidents

We write: Incident and near-miss reporting procedure, investigation form and a register template.

Yours to supply: Your own incident register, even if it records nothing, and any notifiable event sent to WorkSafe.

3. Hazardous substances

We write: Hazardous substances procedure, inventory template and storage and handling controls.

Yours to supply: Current safety data sheets for the products you actually use.

4. Health and safety management

We write: Policy signed by the owner, responsibilities, objectives and a review procedure.

Yours to supply: The signature, dated within 12 months, and a management review record.

5. Subcontractors

We write: Selection and monitoring procedure and a subcontractor prequal checklist.

Yours to supply: Completed checks for the subcontractors you use.

6. Training

We write: Training needs matrix, induction procedure and a competency record template.

Yours to supply: Certificates, Site Safe passports and licences for named people, dated.

7. Inspections

We write: Site, vehicle and equipment inspection procedure with checklists for your kit.

Yours to supply: Completed inspections from the last 12 months.

8. High-risk work

We write: Task analyses and permits for your high-risk activities: heights, excavation, confined space, electrical, hot work, as relevant.

Yours to supply: Evidence they are briefed and signed on site.

9. Health monitoring

We write: Health monitoring procedure linked to your real exposures: noise, dust, silica, vibration.

Yours to supply: Monitoring results or booking records for exposed workers.

10. Insurance

We write: Nothing. There is nothing to write for this section, and we check the certificates before upload.

Yours to supply: Current public liability and statutory liability certificates in the right business name.

11. Worker involvement

We write: Engagement and participation procedure, toolbox talk template and health and safety representative arrangements.

Yours to supply: Dated toolbox talk records from the last 12 months.

12. Mental health

We write: Wellbeing policy, support arrangements and where people can go for help.

Yours to supply: Evidence it has been communicated, such as a toolbox record.

Price

Fixed price, no quote call

NZ$690 for SiteWise, done for you: documents for all 12 scored sections written for your trade, an evidence list showing which records only you can supply, a tracked-changes review, then the assessment completed and submitted for you from your own SiteWise account once you approve it in writing, and revisions at no extra cost until the assessor is satisfied. NZ$290 a year after that for the annual renewal refresh. NZ$1,290 if you need SiteWise and Tōtika Category 1 together, written from one intake: SiteWise submitted for you, Tōtika submitted by your employee with us on the call. Site Safe's own fee is paid by you directly to Site Safe and is never part of our price.

Payment is by bank transfer on invoice: half on acceptance, half when the pack is delivered. No card payments. Prices are in New Zealand dollars. The service is supplied by TAD Compliance Ltd, a United Kingdom company; New Zealand GST is not charged.

If the assessor comes back with questions, we revise our documents at no extra cost until the assessor is satisfied, within the scope of your pack and as long as the information you gave us was accurate, and we resubmit for you once you approve. Site Safe charges its own fee for attempts beyond those included in your subscription, paid by you directly. This is a commitment to keep working on the documents, not a promise of a grade.

What we do, and what we do not

We prepare the documents and, for SiteWise, complete and submit the assessment for you. Here is the line, drawn before you pay rather than after.

  • The Accreditation Desk is an independent private service. We are not Site Safe, SiteWise, Tōtika, CHASNZ, Impac, Avetta, Safe365, SHE or WorkSafe New Zealand and we are not affiliated with them. You can apply to any scheme directly without using us.
  • We do not grade you. Site Safe assess and Site Safe decide. We prepare and submit; you review, sign and approve before anything goes
  • Nothing goes to Site Safe until you have approved it in writing, and we do not sign for you. Your business holds the SiteWise account and your officer signs the policy and statements
  • We are not a health and safety consultancy, we are not on the HASANZ register and we do not carry out site inspections or act as your health and safety adviser
  • We do not invent evidence. If you have no toolbox records, no training records and no insurance, we cannot write them into existence
  • We do not sell Site Safe passports, ConstructSafe or any other training or qualification
  • We cannot guarantee a grade. Your assessment score depends on your real records as well as the documents — we tell you up front which evidence only you can supply.
FAQs

Questions we get asked

How long does a SiteWise assessment take?

We usually have the full pack ready for your review within five to seven working days of the intake call. You review and sign, we complete the assessment on your SiteWise account and send you a copy of everything, and we submit it once you approve it in writing. Site Safe aims to turn the assessment round in 5 to 10 working days, and if the grade is not what your client needs you can be reassessed within three months.

What does SiteWise itself cost?

Site Safe's published fee at the time of writing is NZ$250 + GST a year for Level 3, the subcontractor level, which includes three assessment attempts in the first year, and NZ$795 + GST a year for Level 2. It is paid by you directly to Site Safe and it is not part of our NZ$690. Check sitesafe.org.nz before you budget, because fees change.

Who presses submit?

We do, from your own SiteWise account, and only after you approve it in writing (an email reply is enough). Your business holds the account and adds us as a user. We complete the questions, upload the evidence and send you a copy of everything before it goes to the assessor. Your officer signs the policy and statements, and you can remove us as a user afterwards. If Site Safe tells us or you that a consultant may not complete or submit on a contractor's behalf, we switch to preparing everything for your own person to submit, with us on the call, at no extra cost.

What happens if the assessor comes back with questions?

We revise our documents at no extra cost until the assessor is satisfied with them, within the scope of your pack and as long as the information you gave us was accurate. We draft the answers, update the documents and resubmit for you once you approve. Site Safe includes a set number of assessment attempts in your subscription (three in your first year at Level 3) and charges its own fee for extra attempts, paid by you directly. This is a commitment to keep working on the documents, not a promise of a grade.

Can you promise Gold?

No. Your assessment score depends on your real records as well as the documents — we tell you up front which evidence only you can supply. SiteWise scores your toolbox talks, inspections, training and incident records from the last twelve months as well as your documents. If those are in order and dated, Gold is realistic. If they are not, we tell you before you spend money and show you what to start recording.

We are Amber. Can you get us to Green or Gold?

Usually, if the gap is in the documents. Send us your last assessment feedback and we will tell you section by section what is a document problem we can fix and what is a records problem only you can fix. We quote for the gap, not for a full pack.

Can you do the renewal each year too?

Yes. The annual renewal refresh is NZ$290: we re-date the policies, update the registers, refresh the training and insurance evidence and resubmit it for you, once you approve, before it lapses. Site Safe's renewal fee is paid by you directly to Site Safe.

Are you part of Site Safe?

No. The Accreditation Desk is an independent private service. We are not Site Safe, SiteWise, Tōtika, CHASNZ, Impac, Avetta, Safe365, SHE or WorkSafe New Zealand and we are not affiliated with them. You can apply to any scheme directly without using us.
